Academic Partnerships Bring International Best Practice to Armenia’s Tourism Industry

The Armenian tourism workforce has been provided with en-hanced opportunities for the development of skills and knowl-edge. CAPS year-long efforts yielded in an evolving long-term academic partnership between the renowned George Washing-ton University (GWU) based in the USA, with one of the world’s oldest and most respected tourism programs and the American University of Armenia (AUA). This provides the Armenian educational institution with an exceptional opportunity to teach and provide best practice curricula and materials under international license.

Internationally Recognized Quality Standards for Armenian Pharmaceuticals

The Armenian Pharmaceutical Industry is making dramatic steps toward the introduction of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), a quality standard that countries around the world rely on today to import and export medicines. Assessments under-taken amongst Armenian pharmaceutical companies, however, have revealed that GMP knowledge appears to be deficient in a number of areas.

Sourcio: First Armenian IT Company Receiving IT Mark Certification

Sourcio, one of Armenia’s leading IT consulting companies, which providing IT consulting and support for business web applications and on-demand healthcare solutions, was the first IT company in Armenia to receive IT Mark certification from the European Software Institute. CAPS Promotes Domestic and Regional Tourism

At the beginning of November 2008, and for the second consecutive year, CAPS supported the organization of Country of Talking Stones (CTS'08), the eighth International Tourism Fair. Held annually by the Armenian Association of Travel Agents (AATA), with cooperation of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Armenian Chapter and under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy of the republic of Armenia, the event is designed to promote incoming, regional, domestic and outgoing tourism in Armenia, improve the image of the country as a tourism destination worldwide, and enhance public awareness about the tourism field in Armenia.

"DigiTec 2007" Exhibition Creates New Leads for Armenian IT Companies

The Minister of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia announced: "DigiTec has the potential to become the largest and most important IT exhibi-tion in the region." Such were the reactions of organizers and participants alike at this year’s event. He went on to say further expansion of Digitec is very de-sirable and has raised Armenia’s IT profile internationally. The Minister stressed the government’s strong interest to continue support to DigiTec, which they view as the main annual event in the country in support of the IT industry. According to him, further development of the sector is based on effective pub-lic-private partnerships, which DigiTec greatly enhances.
Forty-seven exhibitors, including eight international and thirty-nine local com-panies such as Microsoft, IBM, National Instruments and Synopsys were in at-tendance. Other cluster members also participated, including educational institutions.

Armenia’s promotion in the Italian travel market

Armenia is welcoming more Italian tourists than ever before. The number of Italian visitors to the tourism information center in Yerevan in 2007 has increased by more than 62% compared to 2006. Growth rates, in terms of tourist arrivals, are the third highest amongst EU countries and top the list amongst EU countries that lack direct air connections.
In the past year alone, Armenia has appeared in more than 50 articles in trade and consumer magazines in the Italian market gaining visibility amongst over 1 million readers and 13,000 travel companies. Moreover, the number of Italian tour operators selling trips to Armenia has increased by 20% and is expected to increase by a further 30% next year.
Such success was made possible through CAPS support for a holistic approach to targeted geographical marketing; matching the demands of the Italian travelers with the tourism opportunities that exist in Armenia.

CAPS Helps Armenia Promote Adventure Tourism in the Country

"Who would have thought that Armenia had so many mountains or such long history? It boggles the mind how beautiful is the just out of reach Mt. Ararat. I enjoyed both Armenia and Georgia and would like to come back in the future." - John Nagle and Belle Plaine

Armenia & Beyond - was the title of the itinerary offered by US-based Wil-derness Travel Company that brought John and Belle to Armenia together with 12 other tourists, to explore various forms of adventure travel in the Caucasus region between 17 September and 5 October 2007.
